The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “abandon.” (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:
When I think of the word abandon, I think about the term living with abandon. Now, this is not something I do naturally or comes easily to me but it is something I believe God calls us to. And so I think it is important to think it through.
To live in such a way that is not ordered and structured and comfortable but in a way that is free and full of margin and open to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Those words are very convicting to me right now!
Convicting because I don’t necessarily see my life lived out in abandon to God. What comes to mind on this subject is a blog post I read recently on Design for Mankind. The part I really liked was this:
“Do you know what passion means, really and truly? It’s a strong and barely controllable emotion.
And this is the part I take issue with. We are convincing each other to follow our dreams, to chase after the illusion, to plan a life around a single, fleeting emotion.
But emotions are notoriously vapid. Once we catch them, they float away.
No, we cannot run after passion.
But we can run after a passionate life.”
Why does this catch my attention? It is because I feel I have been running after some of my passions recently but not necessarily running after a passionate life. And that needs to change!
**God, help my focus to shift from what I want out of life to what You desire for me instead. Help me to live with abandon as I seek to run after that passionate life you have called me to. Change my heart, change my focus, change my way of living!**
