Five Minute Friday: Breathe

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “breathe.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

When I see this word the song, Breathe, by Johnny Diaz comes to mind pretty quickly.  The song starts off with a fast tempo about the stresses and busyness of life and then abruptly switches to a slow tempo with the call to “breathe, just breathe” and simply sit with God in the midst of it all.

I really love the two different dynamics of the song and how they underscore the opposite ways we can approach life: caught up in the chaos of life or intentionally living into the rest offered in Christ.  I often need to be reminded of this as I seek to let Jesus live in and through me.

One of his lyrics state, “there’s gotta be something more to this crazy life.”  And the premise in this song is that there is!  Jonny invites us instead to rest, to simply “be,” to find rest in God and to experience the peace Jesus offers through His life living in us.

I hope you can take time to listen to this song and to find something tangible you can take away from it as well.  Enjoy!

  1. Yes, I love that song as well. It makes me want to just take a deep breathe when he slows the song down and says “Just Breathe….” It’s a good thing! Thanks for the reminder! Have a great weekend! (Your neighbor at FMF)

  2. Yes! That abrupt switch to the peaceful is highly effective in conveying the essential sense of the song. Love it, and love listening to it! And I had not heard it before. Thank you for the share, and for the lovely way you invited me to want to listen. (Your other neighbor at FMF)
