Five Minute Friday: Connect

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “connect.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

I had the best time connecting again with the girls from my church small group last night.  (Our groups are aptly titled “Connect Groups”)  It was so good to hear how their holidays went and to learn about the new praises and struggles in their lives.  It made me think more about what it really means to connect or be in community with others?!

Probably one of the reasons that thought came to my mind is that I’m right in the middle of a new Kindle book, Falling Free by Shannan Martin.  She is all about having real, authentic, Christ-centered connections with others – in a radical way!  Her family gave up their jobs, sold their house out in the country and moved to a lower-income part of the city for the specific purpose of connecting with those in their neighborhood.  She shares how letting go and falling (only to find herself back in God’s loving arms) was so freeing for her.

Last night, I was telling my Connect Group that I feel my life is so much richer than it was a few years back.  And that I feel this is mainly because I am much more relational these days – seeking out and receiving connections with others that come into my little circle of life.  So maybe I am on the right track in all this after all?

Interestingly enough, I am currently reading D.L. Mayfield’s Assimilate or Go Home; I think she is a friend of Shannan Martin’s and her book sounds really similar (DLM writes about her friendships with refugees and other displaced people). I’m glad to hear you’re finding connection right where you are. I enjoyed reading your post; thanks for sharing.

Oh yes, I have heard of that author too. Funny the similarities! I’ll have to check it out sometime. Glad you enjoyed the post. 🙂

I have Shannan Martin’s book. Haven’t had the chance to read it yet, because I am in a study right now.

This spoke volumes to me. It is so nice to see how richer your life is and also that connection is such an action word of reaching and also receiving.
