Five Minute Friday: Crave

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “crave.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

When I first hear the word, crave, I am reminded of a book I read awhile ago called, Made to Crave, by Lysa TerKeurst.  The tagline is something like, “Satisfying your desire with God, not food.”  I thought this was pretty applicable considering the holiday season is upon us with all the family meals, extra treats, cookie exchanges, etc!

What I remember the most about the book is the premise that we were CREATED to crave something – and that something is a relationship with our Creator.  But so many of us fill up that longing with other items, food being one of them.

It isn’t a necessarily a bad thing to be craving something, the author suggested, because it is that very craving that can point us toward remembering we were made to crave a relationship with God instead.  Something along the lines of remembering this truth about where our real craving lies every time we have an unhealthy craving for something else.

So go ahead, crave those holiday treats this year and may it point you back to the One who can truly fill up our deepest longings!

Yep, it’s been a few years since I read it so glad to know the main point really sunk in. Fun to hear you could relate as well! Thanks for sharing.

I struggle with food every day. I read Made to Crave twice and both times learned so much about myself. Visiting you from the FMF at #6. Blessings!
