Five Minute Friday: Depend

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “depend.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

These last couple days I’ve been reminded again of my need to depend first and foremost on God instead of people.  A quote I have up near my office desk says this:

“God is the One and Only Constant in my life!”

I’m not sure exactly where this quote came from or if I just made it up in response to something I read but its sentiment has served me well over the years.  And once again, especially in this last little while!

My mom sent me an email recently with a couple of verses that also speak about depending on God instead of relying on the people around you for identity and security.  The following one was also one of My Life Verses:

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
    that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
    and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

I’m praying that I can remember and take this verse to heart over these next few days. Maybe you can too?!
