The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “friend.” (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:
I’m moving this weekend. I think moving is a test of friendships. Who’s willing to give up a Saturday morning to help you move? Who’s willing to lug boxes up and down stairs for you? Who’s willing to wrestle furniture in and out of trucks for you? A true friend, that’s who!
I was pretty apprehensive about my pool of people to help me move because I didn’t see many burly guys (or any guys really?!) in the mix. But I cast my net far and wide with my initial “Help Me Move!” email. And I was pleasantly surprised.
Girlfriends I hadn’t necessarily expected to respond did and volunteered their husbands to come along too. People said they’d be bringing trucks, SUVs, and cars with lots of space to help move all my stuff. My family stepped up in the midst of their own busy lives to come by as well.
I feel so blessed to see the circle of friends God has given me in this season of my life. Friends who step up and help with my move. Friends who volunteer to help pack or unpack when they are unavailable the morning of Moving Day. Friends who save packing boxes to give me and even enlist the help of other people they know to do so as well.
Thanks, God, for friends! “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)
