Five Minute Friday: Intentional

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “intentional.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

Being intentional with others.  This is something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently because it has come to my attention on a couple of occasions.  Both of these have made me stop and think about why I appreciated and noticed this in my friends so much.

The first time was at a friend’s memorial service last weekend.  I sat in a packed out church and listened to story after story of his legacy of friendship and generosity to those around him.  And realized this didn’t come about by accident but required intentionality on his part.  And that this intentionality, as the pastor reminded us, came from the outpouring of Christ’s love within him.

The second time was when my small group from church was honoring a past leader of our group.  As we went around and shared what we appreciated about her, I remembered I like how she is always so intentional with her conversations and listens well. How she tries to be present with others and honor them with her time.

I think what inspired me in both of these is that their intentional living challenges me to do the same in my own life.   And this also reminds me that how we live our lives matters to those around us!  May we each find those intentional ways others are living which stand out to us and then seek to emulate these instances.

  1. Hi, Bethany! Visiting from FMF. 🙂

We just don’t know how we are influencing others, do we? I’m glad that you’ve had such good examples of friendship and leadership. I will have to take some time today to ponder who has showed me true intentionality in relationships – and then thank them.
