The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “mom.” (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:
A quote from a blog post recently called Seeing With My Heart said this:
“Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and while it honors those who brought us into this world, it is also a day to celebrate women. To say “thank you” to those in our lives who have helped us grow, challenged us and taught us to see with more than our natural eyes.”
I liked it because, while I have a great mom, I also have many other women who have poured into my life and shaped me into the person I have become. Older family friends, mentors, members from my church family growing up, high school or college friends, friends from my current church, friends from my hometown.
However, this quote also helped me to realize that, while I am not a mom myself, I can be a “mother” to those God brings into my own life. The same blog post also said this, “God has intersected my life with still more women through friendship, who have spurred me on when I struggled to keep moving forward. These women, some whose names I can’t remember, were so crazy in love with Jesus, they drew me to fall in love with Him, too.”
I hope this describes me too–such a “crazy in love with Jesus” person to that I have spurred others on in their walks with God and in their own life?! And to realize that my contribution to others can be showing off God’s maternal side to them is so encouraging for me to realize.
Therefore, Happy Mom’s Day to those who have “mothered” me (my own mom included) and Happy Mom’s Day to me as I seek to “mother” those God brings into my life.
