The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “more.” (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:
When I think of the word “more” in the context of Christian living, one verse comes to the forefront for my mind: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20).
This whole idea of God’s “more than” is a good one to think about right now. I was talking with some friends recently about how we are sometimes afraid to bring our desires before God. This can be because we are either afraid of being disappointed when our desires don’t come about or else we don’t believe we are worthy enough of actually receiving these desires.
But in Ephesians 3:20 we are reminded reminded that “God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!” (The Message). How comforting it is to know that no matter what I desire deep down for my own life, God desires even more for me.
In our culture we are taught to dream big for ourselves (and I don’t know about you but I can dream some pretty big, wild dreams) but God’s dream for us is even bigger and better. This brings to mind a Chris Tomlin song, Enough, which talks how God is more than enough for “all our every thirst and every need” and how in this “we are satisfied in His love.” Enjoy!
