Five Minute Friday: Visit

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “visit.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

I think my older brother’s family (who live 20 minutes away from me) are heading over the pass to visit my parents this weekend.  It is my mom’s birthday on Sunday and they want to celebrate with her.

However, I was just there a couple of weekends ago for Mother’s Day so I don’t think I’ll head over to visit this weekend as well.  I couldn’t drive over until Sunday morning and would then just have to turn right around to head home on Monday with all the awful Memorial Day weekend traffic on the pass.

Here’s the kicker though…my younger brother’s family just lives 5 minutes away from my parents so that means my entire family will be together without me.  That’s always hard for me to handle since our family is pretty close!

But it is my choice not to visit and so I’ll just have to make the best of it.  One thing that helps is knowing I’ll get to hang out with my small group gals for a hike on Saturday and with my roommates on my day off on Monday. To remember that we are all one family in Christ!

So, I’ve decided I’m going to take the following verse to heart this weekend instead of sitting around feeling sorry for myself: “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Galatians 6:10).

I agree, Bethany. Visiting family is the best. Choosing not to wallow in self pity is a good choice, too. Have a great weekend!

It is so difficult not being with family for special occasions especially when you know that everyone will be there but you. Self care is important, too. It sounds like you are making the best of it. Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Maybe you can Skype or Facetime. It’s not the same as being there but helps at bit. 🙂
