Five Minute Friday: Work

The word for this week’s Five Minute Friday free-write is “work.”  (Click on the image above to find some other great posts in the linkup too.) Here goes:

Work is something that has been on my mind a lot lately as I just started a new nanny job last week.  I had been at my previous job three years and so had gotten pretty confident and comfortable there.  But now, I’m finding that I’m definitely more unsure and insecure in my work.  I guess it is a learning curve and I need to give myself grace but still…!

The verse that pops into my head with today’s prompt is Colossians 3:23:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (NIV)

“And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God” (MSG)

All this talk about working from the heart reminds me of a book I’m reading at the moment called Waking the Dead: The Secret to a Heart Fully Alive by John Eldredge.  My favorite quote from it right now is this, “You cannot be the person God meant you to be, and your cannot live the life he meant you to live, unless you live from the heart.”

So, may we begin to realize the importance of being authentic and heart-led in our work and in our lives!  I know that is a reminder I can certainly use right now.

Authenticity is so important. Youth need triple A adults in their lives; adults who are authentic, available and affirming. Congrats on the new nanny job. And it is indeed important to give yourself grace. I’m in the 33 spot this week.
