“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
I have noticed this verse from Romans 12:2 come up several times lately. When this happens, I know I should stop and pay attention because God is trying to get through to me. Because I often find that a particular verse or phrase or theme keeps turning up in different places in my life. It will be touched on again and again in something I read or in a sermon or in a worship song or during a talk with a friend. Many times God has used repetition in my life to wake me up to something He is wants to show me.
Why is this so often the case for me? Maybe I am just not in tune enough at the moment to hear the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit in my life. So God practically needs to hit me over the head with His truth for me to finally get it! Other times, I think it can be an indicator to me that I haven’t been in the Word enough so God has to get something to me from different angles instead. Sometimes though, I may be willfully ignoring a spiritual truth being presented to me because it isn’t the one I want to hear at the time. Whatever the case, I usually end up coming around enough to recognize God is trying to speak to me through repetition.
So what do I feel God is trying to show me with this verse in Romans 12? How does it fit into the fabric of my life at the moment? Where do I see an area of my life that could use the revelation it presents to me? Why might God be using this particular verse to get through to me right now? All good questions ask myself and great places to start from. Now I just need to start digging deep to find the answers to them.
Hopefully, all this has sparked something within you as well. For example, what might be something you have sensed God trying to show you lately? Maybe you have also had some “coincidences” come about in the last little while which might actually be God seeking to get your attention. Or maybe He speaks to you through a different way altogether.
For God has created us all uniquely. I know some people who more often have God speak to them through vivid dreams. Others see powerful words or images come into their minds during their prayer times that they recognize as coming from God. These are not things I tend to experience though. For me, it is repetition; Repetition in my life means I need to start paying attention to God’s revelation!
At any rate, I hope this post can be a springboard for you to start reflecting on how God might be trying to get through to your own heart and mind in your life right now as only He can do.
