“Unanswered” Prayers

“Can you accept God’s will when His answer is no? If you are praying in God’s will, He will always answer you when you pray (Jer 33:3). However, sometimes His answer will be no.” (Experiencing God Day by Day).

I’ve been thinking lately about “answered” prayers, or maybe more specifically prayers that don’t bring about the answer we want. A quote from my daily devotional awhile back talked about this very issue:

“Some refuse to take no for an answer, insisting that if you pray long enough and hard enough, God will ultimately grant any request you make. It is an affront to your Lord to continue pleading with Him when He has clearly said no. The purpose of prayer is not to conform God to our will but to adjust our will to God. We must learn to trust God so that if He says no, we accept that His will is best.” (Experiencing God Day by Day)

This idea also ties in well with a couple of songs I have been loving lately. I hope you can let them speak to you as well and also take time to listen to the links provided. Both are so beautiful in their music and also in their lyrics! The first song says this:

“When I try to pray
All I’ve got is hurt and these four words

Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done ….

Just trying to make sense
Of all your promises
Sometimes I gotta stop
Remember that you’re God
And I am not

Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will”  (Thy Will by Hillary Scott)

Here is part of the second song, Trust In You by Lauren Daigle.  I feel it speaks so well to this idea of unanswered prayer and where we can go in the midst of it:

Letting go of every single dream
I lay each one down at Your feet
Every moment of my wandering
Never changes what You see

I’ve tried to win this war I confess
My hands are weary I need Your rest
Mighty Warrior, King of the fight
No matter what I face, You’re by my side

When You don’t move the mountains I’m needing You to move
When You don’t part the waters I wish I could walk through
When You don’t give the answers as I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You!

Truth is, You know what tomorrow brings
There’s not a day ahead You have not seen
So, in all things be my life and breath
I want what You want Lord and nothing less

I’m not sure if this knowledge is for meant for me right now or more so that I can have answers for others going through hard times and questioning God’s motives. All I know is all of this resonates somewhere deep within my soul and makes my faith even stronger as I agree with the sentiments expressed here. Though I don’t know where you are at in this moment, I hope that somehow these can speak to you in some way today too.
